Sep 11, 2013 GetTaxi is now Gett! Download the App and Gett Going! Posted in BLOG, Gett, Gett Launch, GettGoing, News, Promotion Code, by GetTaxi team

So, we’ve got a new name (as you’ve probably noticed), and a much improved product. And we’re really excited about it. Because “Gett” isn’t just about getting you the best car at the best price – we’re also about “getting” other things, too. And in the coming weeks, we’ll be telling you a whole lot more about that.

But TODAY, we’d like to tell you a bit about a new feature we’re launching – future booking. It’s as simple (and awesome) as it sounds. Other taxi and car service apps only let you book cars on demand. And sure, that’s pretty great – we happen to do that also. But you know what’s even better? Having the choice to book ahead of time.

With Gett, you can. Here’s how it works:

· Get a quote for a destination in the app – and remember, with Gett, all pricing is fixed and flat! No surge pricing here.

· Make sure to book at least 12hrs in advance – and you have the option to book as far as 2 weeks ahead!

· Your driver will be assigned at least 30min in advance, and you’ll be able to see the driver’s photo/phone number/details

· You can even make a special request – let us know in the note section if you’d like an SUV, or make it a family-friendly trip with a car seat (no extra charge for a limited time!).

In addition, to celebrate our launch of future bookings, we will be offering a $25 coupon on all future bookings that’s over $50 (including all airports). Simply book your ride, and if the quoted price is over $50, you’ll be sent a customized, one-time coupon code. Really, it’s that easy!

And if you’re a first time rider? We’ll kick another $20 your way – just enter the coupon code “GettGoing”, and you’re all set. So “gett” ready for more exciting announcements, and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You never know when we’ll start giving away more ride credits…!

Sep 3, 2013 Check-up With the Taxi Doctor Posted in Becoming a Taxi Driver, BLOG, Local NYC Experiences, Stories, Taxi Driver, by GetTaxi team

STEP 2: Doctor’s Appointment

With my 6-hour Defensive Driving course completed, the next step was to an approved Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) doctor’s office for a physical examination.

Master Cabbie Taxi Academy took my credit card, charged me $40 and gave me directions to an office in Queens. After a quick subway ride, I found myself meandering the streets until I came across a sign that read “WE DO EYE EXAMS FOR TLC”.

I waited 20 minutes before I escorted to a back office with a female doctor. She checked my blood pressure, asked me about my general health and checked my eye sight.

Five minutes later I was on my way to the TLC office to apply for my Taxi License.

Aug 27, 2013 How do I Even go About Obtaining my NYC Cab License?! Posted in Becoming a Taxi Driver, Behind The Scenes, by GetTaxi team

STEP 1: How to become a NYC Licensed Taxi Driver

There are a few ways to go about beginning the process. While I thought this would be seamless and over within weeks, IT WASN’T. I am excited to share with you how I went about obtaining my license so that, incase you are planning to go through this tedious process, I can help save you lots of wasted time and energy that I endured!

First, I decided to take my 6-hour defensive driving class. I ended up enrolling at Master Cabbie Taxi Academy in Long Island City. Conveniently for me, this was a simple ride from Manhattan on the M,G,A or 7 subway lines. A few minutes of waiting to sign up and $60 later, I found myself being directed to a classroom full of men. I put on my game face, walked in and quietly took a seat.

I was greeted by a guy named Kervin who resembled Bob Marley’s style. The class began and the next 6-hours didn’t exactly fly by. I must admit that the day was not a complete waste of my time. I learned about rules and regulations for taxis in Manhattan that I was completely unaware of. I also re-learned basic driving facts such as how far do you park from a stop sign and which way to turn your wheel when you begin to skid on water.

By 4pm, with my certificate in hand, I was ready to begin the next step.

Jun 24, 2013 Taxis + Safety = A Recipe For Awesomeness Posted in BLOG, News, by GetTaxi team

In the capital city Mogadishu in Somalia, security has improved in the past year, leading two companies to start up taxi services that focus on the safety of their passengers.

Mogadishu Taxi and City Taxi have vehicles that are clearly marked so that customers can be assured they are choosing a safe way to travel. The two taxi companies, with 110 cars combined, charge a flat rate of $5 to and from any part of the capital. This is incredibly low in contrast to other companies that charge more than $15.

“Whenever I see a taxi service like this with security guarantees, I am encouraged to take it wherever I want to go,” said Asha Omar, a 32-year-old mother of seven who lives in Hodan district. “Previously, I was afraid whenever I rented a taxi without anything to identify it.”

The owner of City Taxi has been living in Sweden for the past 23 years and returned to Somalia because he said he wanted to do his part to help rebuild Somalia and restore peace.
